The Convention Industry Council recently announced its 2014 inductees into the CIC Hall of Leaders and third class of Pacesetter Award recipients. They included The International School of Hospitality academic consultant Patti Shock as an inductee to the Hall of Leaders and TISOH director of academic affairs Donnell Bayot as a recipient of the Pacesetter Award. Both were nominated by the National Association for Catering and Events.

Boy Scout Troop 512 of Henderson honored two new Eagle Scouts with a double Court of Honor on May 31. Ashton Hansen and Jeffery Hathaway, eighth-graders at Mannion Middle School, celebrated completion of all requirements to achieve the rank of Eagle during ceremonies at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Arrowhead Chapel in Henderson. Ashton is the son of Jared and Tera Hansen of Henderson, and Jeffrey is the son of Danny and Erica Rollins of Henderson.

Vina Pulido, 25, a former National Merit Scholar Finalist and valedictorian of Clark High School, has graduated with an M.D. from Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons in New York City. Pulido received her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in molecular developmental biology from Yale University in May 2010. She is set to train in internal medicine for the next three to four years at Boston University Medical Center. Pulido is the daughter of Michelle and Waldo Pulido of Las Vegas.

Air Force Airman Matthew R. Ripple graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Ripple then completed technical training at Fort Lee, Va., and is stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, N.M. He is a 2010 graduate of Las Vegas High School and is the son of Lisa and Jeff Ripple of Las Vegas and husband of Laura Niedermeier Ripple.

Air Force Airman Kendrick Dinver B. Gabrillo graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Gabrillo is the son of Dindo A. Gabrillo of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Beverly M. Banez of Waipahu, Hawaii; brother of Devin Jasper B. and grandson of Dino Gabrillo of Las Vegas and Hilda Banez of Waipahu, Hawaii.

Air Force Airman Christopher B. Caday graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Caday is the son of Roger and Ann Caday of Las Vegas and a 2013 graduate of Las Vegas High School.

Lauren Davis, assistant director of sales at Sunset Station, is the recipient of the sixth annual Destination Champion Award, presented by the Henderson City Council on May 20. The award recognizes excellence in the destination hospitality industry.

Johnny Chavarria of Las Vegas, a 16-year-old defender in soccer, was named the winner of Sueno MLS 2014-Presented by Allstate, the search for the best young soccer player in the country. Chavarria, who was discovered by scouts at the L.A. Galaxy trials, has been invited to join one of the club’s academy teams.

Navy Seaman Recruit Adam E. Esaw, son of Albert E. Esaw of Sarasota, Fla., and Vicki J. Esaw of Las Vegas completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Matthew R. Dellasala of Las Vegas graduated from Clemson University in Clemson, S.C., May 9.

Ashley Yelton of Henderson made the spring 2014 Dean’s List at the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio.

Chantalle Uzan of Las Vegas graduated from the Pratt Institute in New York City May 16.

Camille R. Castro has been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army after successfully completing the Army ROTC program and graduating with a bachelor’s degree from UNLV. Castro is the daughter of George Castro Jr. and Patricia R. Castro of Las Vegas. She is a 2010 graduate of the Northwest Career and Technical Academy.

Reed Trinh has been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army after successfully completing the Army ROTC program and graduating with a bachelor’s degree from the University of San Francisco in San Francisco. Trinh is the son of Henri Trinh of Auburn, Wash., and Mimi McReynolds of Las Vegas and the brother of Diamond Trinh of Las Vegas. Trinh is a 2010 graduate of Silverado High School.

Scott Piper of Las Vegas graduated from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kan., May 4.

Lilien Gil-Nicolas of Las Vegas graduated from Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio, May 11.

Mitchell Bonner of Las Vegas made the spring 2014 Dean’s List at Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tenn.

Lauren Lyon, 17, of Las Vegas, was selected as a Richter Scholar at Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Ill.

Kevin R. Shane has been promoted to the rank of chief master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. Shane is the son of Marilyn Shane of Henderson and husband of Amy Shane of Dixon, Calif. He is a 1987 graduate of Valley High School.

Vanessa Woody of North Las Vegas was named to the spring 2014 Dean’s List at Elmira College in Elmira, N.Y.

Stephanie Gorczyca, a University of San Diego student from Las Vegas, has been awarded the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation Beckman Scholars Award.

Local students who graduated from Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C., on May 8 include Justine Naoumi, Nathan Naoumi and Carson Davila, all of Las Vegas.

Tanner Hernandez and Celina Oh of Las Vegas earned placement on the spring 2014 President’s List at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash.

Air Force Reserve Airman Vacietta O. Dejesus graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Dejesus is the daughter of Tabatha Powell and Bernardo Dejesus, both of Las Vegas. She is a 2011 graduate of Mojave High School.
