Tenasie Bowe of Las Vegas and her duo partner Matt Keyler received the Best Country Group and Best Americana Group from the International Music and Entertainment Association and Best Country Duo/Group in the Nashville Independent Music Awards. Bowe is the daughter of Rose Bowe of Las Vegas.

Volunteer-based nonprofit Las Vegas HEALS honored six local physicians at the third annual Inspired Excellence in Health Care Awards, held Oct. 16: Howard I. Baron, Jeffrey L. Cummings, Sen. Joseph Hardy, J.D. McCourt, Russell T. Nevins and Nicholas J. Vogelzang.

Air Force Airman Jessica M. Johnson graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Johnson is the daughter of Carol M. Johnson of Lake Elsinore, Calif., and sister of James Johnson of Las Vegas. She earned an associate degree in 2013 from UNLV.

Henderson resident Tom Fay plans to retire Nov. 4 after more than 30 years working in and leading Southern Nevada libraries. Before taking the position of Las Vegas-Clark County Library District deputy director, Fay served as director of Henderson Libraries for nearly a decade. Air Force Airman Austin D. Cowan graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Cowan is the husband of Jewel M. Cowan of Las Vegas and is a 2011 graduate of Cheyenne High School.

Michela Brooks of Las Vegas graduated in May from Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan.

Local residents who made the academic dean’s list at Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, Calif., include: Brittni Bigelow, Austin Daykin, Haley Daykin, Danae Ingwaldson, Samantha Kendrick, Jennifer Malech, Erickson Nery, Kyle Thomas and Colleen Zumaran, all of Las Vegas; and Graydon Driver, Lindsay Hutchinson and Nicole Wong, all of Henderson.

Michael B. Nelson received an Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps scholarship to attend St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minn. The scholarship entitlements include tuition and fees, an annual book allowance and a monthly stipend for up to 10 months of each school year the scholarship is in effect. Nelson is the son of David Nelson of Henderson.

Local students who made the summer term scholastic honor roll at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Ore., include Melissa S. Berman of Henderson and Stacy A. Kreuziger, Karl C. Benjamin, Lewis E. Duran, Jennifer J. Farmer, Aimee Miller, Wyatt T. Morris and Rachel M. Soo Hoo, all of Las Vegas.

Kristin Schulz of Las Vegas made the summer 2014 dean’s list at Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa, and graduated in July.
