NOMINATIONS SOUGHT FOR SENIOR CITIZEN OF THE YEAR

Nominations are being sought for Nevada’s Senior Citizen of the Year. Anyone 60 or older who has lived in Nevada for at least five years is eligible to be nominated.

The National Silver Haired Congress Nevada Delegation, in partnership with the Aging Services Directors Organization, established the award in 2013. Las Vegas resident Raymonde Fiol, 77, was the 2014 recipient.

MASTER GARDENERS TO HOST KIDS GARDENING CLASSES

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s Junior Master Gardener program plans to offer hands-on gardening activities for children beginning the first week of February through May. Classes are slated from 9 a.m. to noon twice monthly on Saturdays at the University of Nevada Clark County Center for Urban Food Production, 4600 Horse Drive.

The class is taught to help children learn about the environment, how plants grow in the desert and where food comes from. The class fee is $52 per child. A multiple sibling discount is available upon request. Students must register to participate as class size is limited.

RAISING CANE’S CHICKEN FINGERS TO HIRE 50 EMPLOYEES IN NORTH LAS VEGAS

Raising Cane’s plans to add roughly 50 job positions to its new North Las Vegas location slated to open March 6. Hiring fairs are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 6 and 7 at the Hampton Inn Las Vegas North Speedway, 2852 E. Craig Road.

NORTH LAS VEGAS LIBRARY DISTRICT RECEIVES GRANT AWARD

The North Las Vegas Library District has received a $28,000 grant award from the NV Energy Foundation to upgrade computers at the City Hall Library that are accessible to the public.

The funds will enable the library to upgrade the current desktop towers, enhance services to patrons and fund future Virtual Desktop Infrastructure reducing operating costs.

CENTENNIAL HILLS HOSPITAL PLANS BABY-SITTING CERTIFICATION CLASS

A baby-sitting certification class is planned from 8 a.m. to noon the second Wednesday of every month at Centennial Hills Hospital, 6900 N. Durango Drive. The four-hour class helps youths ages 11 to 16 gain the knowledge and skills they need to care for infants and children, as well as time to practice these skills in a web-based program.
