RED ROCK RESORT TO HOST SEASONAL JOB FAIR

A job fair is set for 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Jan. 22 inside Rocks Lounge at Red Rock Resort, 11011 W. Charleston Blvd.

Station Casinos plans to hire dozens of seasonal positions at Red Rock Resort, including VIP attendants, beverage servers, bartenders, lifeguards, cooks, food servers, sprinters, bar porters, cabana hosts, pool ambassadors and assistant pool managers.

SMITH’S TO HOST FOOD DRIVE FOR RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES

Participating Smith’s Food & Drug locations are set to host an annual food drive for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Las Vegas from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 31.

Volunteers will hand out food drive wish lists and assist shoppers with their donations. This is the 14th year that Las Vegas Valley Smith’s stores have supported the drive, which stocks the charity’s shelves with nonperishable and frozen food items, paper products and cleaning supplies.

The Ronald McDonald House of Greater Las Vegas provides a “home away from home” for families who must travel to Las Vegas to receive critical medical treatment for their children.

WESTSIDE NEWCOMERS TO MEET FEB. 4

The Westside Newcomers Club plans to host a coffee event for prospective members at 9:15 a.m. Feb. 4 at Grace in the Desert Episcopal Church, 2004 Spring Gate Lane. The coffee event takes place the first Wednesday of each month.

The club is for women who have lived in the area for 10 years or less or for those who have a life-changing event, such as retirement. It offers a variety of activities, and a luncheon with a program is planned for the second Wednesday of each month.

JCC WEST TO HOST MONTHLY MOMMY & ME CLASSES

The Jewish Community Center of Southern Nevada plans to offer Mommy & Me with a Jewish Twist for mothers and their newborns through 3-year-olds. The monthly classes are scheduled for 9 to 10 a.m. Feb. 8, March 6, April 12 and May 3 at the JCC West, 1400 N. Rampart Blvd., Suite 105, inside Las Vegas Sports Park.

The holiday-themed classes will build socialization skills, increase confidence and enhance early learning.

GENEALOGY GROUP PLANS FEB. 15 PROGRAM

The Jewish Genealogy Society of Southern Nevada plans to meet at 1 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave.

The topic will be “Who do you think you are?” Dr. Stephen Morse, creator of the One-Step website, is set to speak. The site began as an aid for finding passengers in the Ellis Island database and has evolved to include about 200 web-based tools.

The meeting is also set to include the topic “Genealogy Beyond the Y Chromosome: Autosomes Exposed.”

The Jewish Genealogy Society of Southern Nevada meets at 1 p.m. on the third Sunday of each month. Meetings are open to the public, and membership applications are available at the meetings. Annual dues are $18 for individuals and $25 for a family membership.

GIRL SCOUTS TO USE DIGITAL COOKIE APP

Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada plans to take part in Girl Scouts’ new national Digital Cookie platform to enhance and expand the program’s ability to teach girls new skills for business and life.

Through the platform, local Girl Scouts will be able to take in-person cookie orders from customers and automate cookie shipments. As with the traditional cookie program, the net revenue earned from the cookie sale will remain with the Girl Scout council that sponsors the sale.

Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada is set to begin using the platform at the start of its cookie-selling season Feb. 13. For more information, visit girlscouts.org/digitalcookie.
