JOURNEY OF HOPE CYCLISTS TO VISIT VETERANS MEMORIAL LEISURE SERVICES CENTER JUNE 10

A team of 36 cyclists and crew members participating in Journey of Hope plan to visit Las Vegas June 10-11 as part of their 3,9oo-mile, cross-country cycling event to raise funds and awareness for people with disabilities.

The southern route team plans to arrive at noon June 10 at Veterans Memorial Leisure Services Center, 101 N. Pavilion Center Drive, where city of Las Vegas representatives plan to present a proclamation from Mayor Carolyn Goodman and the Las Vegas City Council proclaiming June 10 Push America Day. The team members will have lunch and participate in a wheelchair basketball demonstration with local athletes. In the evening, they plan to visit Santa Fe Station for bowling with participants from the city’s Adaptive Recreation program and to spend June 11 at Wet ‘n’ Wild with Adaptive Recreation program summer campers.

WALKER FURNITURE’S HELP FOR HEROES PROGRAM ACCEPTING LETTERS

Walker Furniture has unveiled a program to help provide a better quality of life for wounded U.S. military personnel and veterans in Clark County, who are in need of specialized items not generally available through the Veterans Administration.

The new program, Help for Heroes, is scheduled to run through July 1 and rely on letters from the community written on behalf of prospective recipients.

Walker Furniture will provide 10 military individuals and families with a variety of necessary items that may include lift chairs, adjustable beds, new mattresses and dining sets. Each delivery will be specific to the needs of each recipient.

Letters received will be reviewed and evaluated by an independent panel headed by Cmdr. John Rupe of the American Legion Paradise Post 149. The post commander will visit each prospective recipient to evaluate their individual needs.

NEW BUSINESSES OPEN AT VILLAGE SQUARE

Village Square, 9400 W. Sahara Ave., has announced the addition of two new businesses to the shopping complex: Apex Health Care Professionals Inc. and Divine Threading & Lash Studio.

Apex is a staffing registry serving health care organizations, providing medical, nursing and allied health professionals for short- and long-term assignments, traveling employment and permanent placement.

Divine Threading & Lash Studio is a boutique threading and lash studio providing a modern twist to an ancient technique of hair removal. It also offers other services such as henna and glitter tattoos. It is scheduled to open this summer.

CHILDREN’S CLOTHING STORE OPENS AT THE MARKET LV

Pas De Deux Children’s Couture has joined The Market LV in Tivoli Village, 440 S. Rampart Blvd. The boutique offers shabby chic, vintage children’s clothing and accessories. It also plans to offer weekly activities such as children’s yoga, sign language and art classes.

READING WITH RASCAL SET FOR JUNE 14 AT DESERT SPRING CHURCH

The next Reading with Rascal is slated from 10 a.m. to noon June 14 in the multipurpose room of Desert Spring United Methodist Church, 120 N. Pavilion Center Drive.

GENEALOGY PROGRAM PLANNED FOR JUNE 15 at SAHARA WEST LIBRARY

The Jewish Genealogy Society of Southern Nevada plans to meet at 1:30 p.m. June 15 at the Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave.

Ask the Experts is planned, and members can submit their most challenging genealogy problems to a panel of experts in advance of the meeting. These will be researched before the meeting, and the methods used as well as the results will be discussed.

COMMODORE COMPUTER CLUB TO MEET JUNE 21

The Clark County Commodore Computer Club plans to meet from 9 to 11 a.m. June 21 at Total Wine & More, 730 S. Rampart in Boca Park.

The club is for enthusiasts of the Commodore line of computers. Users of all computer platforms and tablets welcome. Planned demonstrations include the Leapmotion motion controller for PC or Mac.
