MACY’S PLANS CHARITY SHOPPING DAY OCT. 4 AT DOWNTOWN SUMMERLIN

A Charity Shopping Day is planned from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 4 at Macy’s at Downtown Summerlin, 1980 Festival Plaza Drive. Preview the new store while supporting 46 local nonprofits that have signed on to benefit from the event.

Customers can purchase $5 shopping pass tickets from any of the participating organizations, which keep all of the ticket sale proceeds. Exclusive discounts on purchases throughout the store, with up to 20 percent savings, will be available for ticket holders.

Tickets also will be sold at the Downtown Summerlin Macy’s doors on Charity Shopping Day.

A community stage with performances by local talent also is planned, along with enter-to-win prizes, including a $500 Macy’s shopping spree.

OUTSIDE LAS VEGAS FOUNDATION EXPANDS ADOPT-A-TRAIL PROGRAM

The Outside Las Vegas Foundation is expanding its Adopt-a-Trail program beyond the city of Las Vegas to include unincorporated Clark County. There are 120 miles of urban trails available for adoption for a $500 donation per mile, which can be renewed annually.

Businesses and individuals who donate $3,000 or more to adopt a segment by Oct. 15 will be honored as Trailblazers at Get Outdoors Nevada Day on Oct. 25. Those who donate from $500 to $3,000 will be recognized as Pioneer sponsors.

WESTSIDE CHICAGO CLUB TO MEET OCT. 5

The Westside Chicago Club plans to meet at 2 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave.

The group meets the first Sunday of each month and consists mostly of people who have retired to Las Vegas. Meetings start with a short business portion followed by a program. The group is open to everyone.

FOUNDATION FOR POSITIVELY KIDS PLANS GOLF TOURNAMENT AT TPC SUMMERLIN

The Foundation for Positively Kids plans to host the Swing for the Kids golf tournament Oct. 6 at TPC Summerlin, 1700 Village Center Circle.

The cost is $750 for a foursome and $200 for individual golfers, which includes 18 holes with cart, an event T-shirt, a golf survival kit, breakfast and an awards luncheon. Golfers also will have a chance to win a Harley Davidson motorcycle from Las Vegas Harley-Davidson and a Lexus from Lexus Las Vegas if they hit a hole-in-one on established holes.

Tournament proceeds will help provide services in several Clark County School District schools, including EEGS, physical and daily care and early-intervention evaluations, screening and diagnosis for autism.

WOMEN’S CLUB OF SUMMERLIN PLANS ANNUAL CHARITY EVENT OCT. 9

The Women’s Club of Summerlin has slated its annual charity event for 6 p.m. Oct. 9 at the JW Marriott, 221 N. Rampart Blvd. Expect heavy hors d’oeuvres, a raffle, a silent auction, dancing and live music provided by Ronnie Lee Twist and The Future Cats.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Project 150, a nonprofit organized in December 2011 when founders learned of 150 homeless high school students in need of support over the holidays. The effort has expanded to helping more than 1,100 homeless and disadvantaged students in Las Vegas Valley high schools.

FINAL 2014 READING WITH RASCAL EVENT SET FOR OCT. 11

The next Reading with Rascal event is slated from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 11 in the multipurpose room of Desert Spring United Methodist Church, 120 N. Pavilion Center Drive. This will be the final event for 2014. Children can read to a certified therapy dog. Families do not need to be members of the church.

This event will be a costume party, and everyone is encouraged to wear costumes. Many of the dogs and their handlers will be in costumes.

BROKEN SPOKE BIKES TO SUPPORT CANDLIGHTERS WITH CYCLING EVENT

Broken Spoke Bikes and The Snyder Group are gearing up to support the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation and Childhood Cancer Awareness Month with a Mount Charleston Hill Climb scheduled for Oct. 11. Broken Spoke Bikes, 11700 W. Charleston Blvd., will donate $5 of each entry to Candlelighters, and all riders will be greeted with a special pancake and hot chocolate breakfast at the finish line.

GOODIE TWO SHOES ROCKIN’ WALK SET FOR OCT. 12

The Goodie Two Shoes Foundation’s fifth annual Rockin’ Walk is planned from 9:30 a.m. to noon Oct. 12. Participants must park at the Suncoast, 9090 Alta Drive, where shuttle service will be provided to the walk location of TPC Summerlin, 1700 Village Center Circle. Shuttle service is set to begin at 8 a.m. and run every 15 minutes. Parking at TPC Summerlin will be available only by permit.

Participants can choose their walking course: a 1-mile mixed hole, the 2.5-mile back nine or 5-mile 18-hole. Live entertainment and prizes are planned, along with giveaways and goodie bags for all walkers, while supplies last.

SMILES FOR SURVIVORS PLANS OCT. 18 FUNDRAISER

The Smiles for Survivors Foundation, a Las Vegas-based nonprofit that provides dental treatment to breast cancer patients and survivors, has slated its fourth Blow Out Breast Cancer fundraising event for Oct. 18 at Square Colour Salon + Spa, 1225 S. Fort Apache Road, Suite 160.

Beauty treatments are scheduled from 2 to 6 p.m. Evening festivities are set from 7 to 11 p.m., including food, cocktails, live entertainment and a silent auction.

ALS OF NEVADA PLANS RUN, WALK & ROLL FOR OCT. 25

The ALS of Nevada’s 14th annual Run, Walk & Roll event is slated for 6 a.m. Oct. 25 at Police Memorial Park, 3250 Metro Academy Way.

The event will feature family activities, including a superhero costume contest for individuals and teams. Awards will be presented for the best costumes, top runners and top fundraisers.

HELP OF SOUTHERN NEVADA COLLECTS BOTTLED WATER

HELP of Southern Nevada joined forces during the summer with Whole Foods Market to collect bottled water and monetary donations for the HELP2O campaign. The intent was to protect area homeless people from the dangers associated with extreme heat.

The campaign collected more than 45,800 bottles of water to distribute to Southern Nevada’s homeless residents.

COATS FOR KIDS SEEKS DONATIONS

Harriet’s Coats for Kids is seeking donations of new or gently used children’s coats, to be distributed in the Las Vegas Valley through The Salvation Army.

Donation boxes can be found at area Albertsons stores. Everyone who donates a coat has an opportunity to win two tickets to the “Million Dollar Quartet” show.

Coats will be picked up by Aramark Uniform Services and cleaned free by Al Phillips The Cleaner. Adults’ coats also can be donated.
