Concert to feature Rosemary Alvino

The Performing Arts Society of Nevada's Las Vegas Lyric Opera presents "Rosemary Alvino -- I'm Easily Assimilated," a concert of classical and Broadway music featuring Alvino and friends at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Clark County Library Main Theater, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.

Tickets are $15. For details call 658-6741. Tickets will also be available on Sunday at the library theater box office beginning at 1 p.m.

Alvino's special guest will be Claudio Herrera, resident pianist with the Instituto Nacional de Belles Artes in Mexico City.

Bruce Ewing, currently a member of the cast of "Phantom -- The Las Vegas Spectacular" also will make a guest appearance.

Alvino will be making a return visit to Las Vegas from her home in Cuenavaca, Mexico. When Alvino resided in Las Vegas, she was a frequent performer in classical and Broadway programs.

She has been a guest artist with the Seattle Opera, Opera Colorado, Opera San Jose, Tulsa Opera, New Jersey State Opera and the Nevada Symphony, and has sung in Italy at the Vatican, in Israel, in Mexico and Argentina. For two seasons she was guest artist for the Natchez, Miss., Fine Arts Festival.


Art Institute offers free help to nonprofits

Southern Nevada nonprofit groups are invited to apply for graphic design, multimedia and Web design, animation, video production and even culinary services from The Art Institute of Las Vegas as part of the school's community service initiative to benefit local groups.

The arts services will be provided at no charge through the school's community Arts Resource Exchange program, which gives its students opportunities to apply their art and design talents to projects that support the needs of the community.

Nonprofit groups may apply for assistance in areas such as logo development, poster design, brochures, flyers, postcards and other marketing collateral material, as well as multimedia projects, computer animation sequences, Web sites and other projects that fit into the school's curriculum.

The school currently offers associate and bachelor's degree programs in the design, media arts, culinary arts and fashion fields.

Immunization clinic for children scheduled

The Southern Nevada Health District will have a special pre-teen and children's immunization clinic between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday at its main campus, 625 Shadow Lane.

Recently, the Nevada State Board of Health enacted new immunization regulations that require children entering seventh grade to be immunized against Bordetella pertussis and college freshmen, under age 24, who will live in on-campus housing are now required to be immunized against Neisseria meningiditis (Meningocuccus).

The Southern Nevada Health District provides the Tdap (tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis) vaccine to protect against pertussis as well as the meningitis immunization.

TdaP and the meningitis immunizations are recommended for all pre-teens.

The special clinic will offer the TdaP and meningitis vaccines as well as all other childhood and teen immunizations.

Parents must bring immunization records. Children with no immunization records will have to begin the immunization sequence from the beginning.

Noncustodial adults may accompany a child, however, written consent must be provided to the health district from the parent or guardian at the time of service.

An administrative fee of $16 per patient for one immunization or $20 per patients for two or more immunizations will be charged. Some vaccines might require an additional fee.

No other health district services will be offered during this clinic.
