Officials to celebrate new park Saturday

A grand opening celebration for the Whitney Mesa Recreation Area in Henderson is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday.

Mayor Andy Hafen and members of the Henderson City Council will be on hand to dedicate the park, which is at 1661 Galleria Drive, behind the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center and Aquatic Complex.

The event will include a ribbon cutting, activities and tours of the park. A bike valet will be available for residents who ride their bikes.

Visitors will find lighted tennis courts, a lighted basketball court, trails and a day camp with an archery range in the 20-acre recreation area. A BMX area remains under construction and is expected to open this summer.
