Dining Pick of the Week: Cheffini’s Hot Dogs

Cheffini’s Hot Dogs

Downtown Container Park, 707 Fremont St., Suite 101; 702-527-7599

Cheffini’s Hot Dogs is the first building to the left as you enter the Downtown Container Park. You can get just about anything you want there, as long as what you want is mostly hot dogs. But these aren’t your average hot dogs. Select beef or turkey, or for $1 more, vegan. Most of the menu items include unusual ingredients. You aren’t likely to find Bacon Bits, pineapple sauce, caramelized onions or seaweed at your local hot dog stand or ballpark, but they’re standard fare at Cheffini’s. Prices range from $3.99 to $8.99, and menu selections include the Panchero, (a grilled frank with grilled, dry chorizo bits, caramelized onions, red bell pepper aioli and chimichurri), the Crunchy Dog (a grilled frank with onions, red peppers, Bacon Bits, crushed potato chips, seaweed, Sriracha mayo, mustard and fry sauce) and the Moshi-Moshi (a grilled frank with caramelized onions, seaweed, jalapeno, wine sauce and spicy mayo). An additional side of sauce costs 25 cents. The menu also has sliders, cheese fries and grilled cheese. Soft drinks, water and a small selection of beer are available to wash it all down. Like the rest of the Downtown Container Park, the restaurant is built from a steel container, so the dining space is long and narrow, with just 14 indoor seats and outdoor patio seating shared with several other restaurants. Large windows look out on the park and provide ample people-watching opportunities. Cheffini’s Hot Dogs is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
