IKEA plans to open store in Las Vegas

IKEA, the world’s leading home furnishings retailer, plans to open a Las Vegas-area store that would increase the Swedish retailer’s presence in the Western United States.

The 351,000-square-foot proposed IKEA store will be built on 26 acres along the northern side of the 215 Beltway at Durango Drive, near the intersection with Sunset Road. Store plans reflect the same unique architectural design for which IKEA stores are known worldwide. The opening is scheduled for summer 2016.

“We look forward to continue growing our Western U.S. presence with IKEA Las Vegas,” said Rob Olson, chief financial officer of IKEA U.S. “This accessible location would provide the already 101,000 Las Vegas-area customers a store of their own and introduce the unique IKEA shopping experience to other consumers throughout Clark County and Southern Nevada.”

Registration high for summer Las Vegas Market

The Las Vegas Market announced that overall preregistrations for summer are running ahead of winter 2014 — the largest event in its history — setting the stage for a robust, and potentially record-setting, summer market attendance. The market begins Sunday and runs through Thursday.

“By virtually every measure — week-to-week comparisons against winter market, overall quantity of registrations, and percentage gains by category — attendee registration for the summer Las Vegas Market is ahead,” said Scott Eckman, chief market and strategy officer, International Market Centers. “These gains reinforce the strategic shifts we have made in positioning Las Vegas Market as the leading furniture, home decor and gift destination in the Western United States, and reflect both the increase in resource density as well as the intensive efforts by our expanded retail relations team.”

While registration growth has been strongest in the gift and home décor categories, overall summer market preregistrations are ahead across all merchandise categories, including furniture, which is experiencing steady and consistent registration activity.

Las Vegas Market is the most comprehensive furniture, home décor and gift market in the United States, presenting a unique cross-section of more than 2,000 resources in an unrivaled market destination. With two markets each year, retailers and designers can shop a broad assortment of product.
