Photography competition shows off modern, vintage side of downtown
October 10, 2012 - 1:04 am
The second annual Capture Downtown! photo competition invited professional and amateur photographers to capture the vintage and modern side of downtown Las Vegas. More than 200 photographs were submitted for competition in the categories of Modern People, Modern Places and Vintage Places.
A jury of photographers including Jerry Metellus of Jerry Metellus photography, Ryan Reason of Studio West photography and Mark Damon, photo editor of the Las Vegas Review-Journal selected 22 outstanding photographs as contest winners. A “People’s Choice” award was selected through online voting on the Las Vegas Review-Journal website.
The people chose a photo of the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health titled “Lou Ruvo Monsoon” that was taken by G. Kim Franz, Ph.D. The winning photographers received a variety of downtown fun packages; their photos are featured on page 22 of this section.
The competition was sponsored by the city of Las Vegas, Symphony Park, Newland and the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
