Municipal court to install video Datapoint Corp. of San Antonio has received an order from Las Vegas Municipal Court to provide a video network for arraignment and administrative communications to support five courtrooms, the city and county detention centers, the city jail and related offices. The network system will provide the court with full-motion, noncompressed video between each of the courtrooms, intake services and the jail for arraignment and inmate processing procedures. "I am very excited about the installation of our new system, and the much-improved performance and flexibility it will provide," Las Vegas Municipal Court Judge Seymore Brown said. "This will save considerable staff time, inconvenience and expense currently associated with foot and vehicular travel between remote facilities." Crown Labs reports net loss Crown Laboratories Inc. of Las Vegas reported a net loss of $1.4 million, or 7 cents a share, for the fourth quarter ended Dec. 31, compared with a loss of $1.2 million, or 9 cents a share, for the year-ago period. The net loss for the year was $4.6 million, or 27 cents a share, compared with a net loss of $3.8 million, or 30 cents, for 1995. Craig Nash, chairman and chief executive of Crown, said the losses were primarily attributed to research and development of products and start-up costs associated with the company's Las Vegas plant. Increased salaries for additional employees as well as higher operating expenses added to the loss. The company has entered into a three-year distribution agreement with McKesson Corp., which management expects to produce revenues of $1.5 million a month. Also, the company has joined with Tufts University to pursue the areas of human nutritional product research and education.
Station Casinos completes note sale Las Vegas-based Station Casinos Inc. completed its sale of $150 million of senior subordinated notes to BancAmerica Securities Inc. Proceeds from the sale of the notes were used to reduce outstanding debts under the company's $372 million bank facility. The availability under the bank facility, cash flows from operations, and equipment financing will be used to pay the remaining construction costs of about $132 million for the next phase of the Station Casino in St. Charles, Mo. Harvard Scientific obtains financing Harvard Scientific Corp. of Reno has concluded the first round of a $15 million financing. This financing will allow the company to continue with FDA trials and product development while at the same time enhancing book value for the company. Harvard Scientific makes products for the treatment of male erectile dysfunction, impotency and sexual enhancement. Spintek unveils coin-control system Spintek Gaming Technologies has introduced its AccuSystem hopper coin-control system. The Las Vegas-based company is the marketing its proprietary gaming technology as a new standard of operational coin control. Spintek's product line, collectively named AccuSystem, provides gaming device security and management information to the casino industry. Dawson Science buys Chinese taxi firm Reno-based Dawson Science Corp. acquired 100 percent of the shares of Shenzhen City Zhenghua Traffic and Transportation Main Co. in Shenzhen, China. Dawson paid $102 million with a combination of common and convertible preferred stocks. The Shenzhen company owns, operates and leases more than 1,000 taxi cabs and trucks in Southern China. With this acquisition, Dawson will report almost $100 million in assets and $78 million in revenues. Earnings of $7.8 million will yield about 58 cents a share.
