Cheyenne boys swim to victory

John Nowak won the 200-meter individual medley and the 100 breaststroke Saturday to lead Cheyenne's boys swim team to a 97-50 victory over Valley at Silver Springs.
      Nowak won the 200 individual medley in 2 minutes, 28.53 seconds and the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.41.
      Valley's Jeff Hoyt won the 100 butterfly (1:03.72) and the 500 freestyle (5:57.28).
      Valley dominated the girls meet, winning 108-21.
      Jenny Duran won the 200 freestyle (2:55.23) and the 50 freestyle (33.19). Hillary Hopkins had victories in the 100 butterfly (1:18.5) and the 500 freestyle (9:22.49) to lead Valley.
      At UNLV, May Chu, Ashlee Simon, Lindsey Whipple and Kadee Whipple each won two events as Durango's girls beat Cimarron-Memorial, 166-128.
      Chu won the 200 and 500 freestyle, Simon the 50 and 100 freestyle, Kadee Whipple the 100 butterfly and the 100 breaststroke and Lindsey Whipple the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke.
      In the boys meet, Scott Weaver (200 freestyle and 100 backstroke) and Eric Osello (50 freestyle and 500 freestyle) each won two events to lead Durango to a 159-112 victory over the Spartans.
      At Silver Springs, Beth Scott won two events to lead Western's girls to a 76-57 win over Palo Verde.
      Scott won the 200 freestyle (2:37.10) and 50 freestyle (29.78). Western also swept the relays, winning the 200 medley relay (2:35.37), 200 freestyle relay (2:20.41) and 400 freestyle relay (5:21.09).
      Palo Verde won every event in the boys meet, beating Western, 60-7.
      -- SOFTBALL -- Eisenhower, Calif., scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning to beat Clark 6-4 at Clark.
      Eisenhower took advantage of four Clark errors in the inning.
      Stephanie Italiano was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Amy Hillenbrand was 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Clark.
      At Las Vegas, Kristine Dugan and Danielle Steiner were each 2-for-3 to lead the Wildcats to an 8-3 victory over Boulder City.
      Sarah Hirsch threw five shutout innings, allowing one hit and striking out five to pick up the victory.
      -- BASEBALL -- Chris O'Brien was 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs to lead Las Vegas to a 12-4 victory Friday over Moapa Valley at Overton.
      Jared Blasdell, Jeremy Martin and Roberto San Jurjo each added two hits for the Wildcats.
