Stars lose in Calgary

Calgary starting pitcher Tom Bolton was in command as the Cannons defeated the Stars 8-2 in a Pacific Coast League game on Saturday afternoon at Calgary, Alberta.
      Bolton, 1-1, pitched seven innings, allowing one run, four hits and one walk and striking out six.
      The Stars tied the game 1-1 when Homer Bush led off the third inning with his first home run of the season.
      Las Vegas didn't get another hit until Stoney Briggs led off the ninth with a single.
      The loss dropped the Stars to 4-5 in the PCL's Southern Division. Calgary improved to 2-8 in the Northern Division.
      The Stars' troubles began before they arrived in Calgary. Their plane was delayed 2 1/2 hours in Salt Lake City.
      Calgary broke the game open in the third inning when a two-run homer by Ron Wright against losing pitcher Brad Kaufman gave the Cannons a 4-1 lead.
      Calgary scored a run in the sixth and three in the seventh for an 8-1 lead.
      The Stars scored a run in the ninth when Briggs advanced to second on a throwing error. He moved to third on a single by Derrek Lee and scored on a groundout by Terry Shumpert.
      The teams will meet in Calgary today at 12:35 p.m. The Stars' Chris Hook will start against Chris Peters.
