Durango pushes record to 23-0 with baseball sweep

Tom Doxey threw a three-hitter, striking out six in the first game as Durango swept a baseball doubleheader from Agoura Hills on Saturday at Durango.
      The Trailblazers won the first game 13-1 and the second 9-2 to improve to 23-0.
      Eddie Guerrero was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, Jason Jacobsen was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Justin Kittrell had two hits and three RBIs in the first game.
      In the second game, Eddie Blubaugh was 3-for-4 to lead the Durango offense. Matt McCurdy was 2-for-4 and Harley Hadley had two hits and two RBIs.
      Chris Bannister earned the victory, striking out seven over five innings.
      At Alamo, Scott Miller threw a three-hit shutout to lift Pahranagat Valley to a 16-0 victory over Trinity Christian in the second game of a doubleheader.
      Pahranagat Valley won the first game, 11-3.
      At Mesquite, Mikey Cocks threw a one-hitter to lead Boulder City to an 11-1 victory as the Eagles swept a doubleheader from Virgin Valley Friday night.
      Boulder City won the first game 12-4 behind Doug Stuart's 4-for-4, 5 RBI performance.
      -- SOFTBALL -- April Valdez allowed just seven hits in two games as Wilson (Calif.) swept Clark, 6-0 and 4-1.
      In the first game, Valdez allowed just two hits and no runs, striking out eight. She struck out 12 in the second game.
      Clark's Stephanie Italiano had a double and two triples in the second game.
      -- SWIMMING -- Green Valley's boys team won all but one event in a 133-35 victory over Basic at Silver Springs.
      Tait Ecklund, Bill Handsfield and Jason Reed each won two events for the Gators.
      Ecklund won the 200-meter freestyle (1 minute, 59.66 seconds) and the 500 freestyle (5:09.46), Handsfield won the 200 individual medley (2:13.96) and the 100 freestyle (51.06) and Reed won the 100 butterfly (56.46) and the 100 backstroke (58.66).
      In the girls meet, Basic won just three events in Green Valley's 120-65 victory.
      Tonya Gabriele won the 200 individual medley (2:28.38) and the 100 backstroke (1:14.35) for the Gators.
      At UNLV, Ryan Swift (200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke) and Brian Worrell (50 and 100 freestyle) each won two events to lead Las Vegas (83 points) over The Meadows (49) and Faith Lutheran (25).
      In the girls meet, Kendra Akers won the 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke to lead The Meadows to victory.
      At Silver Springs, Jessica Bourisk (200 individual medley and 500 freestyle) and Jean McIntyre (50 freestyle and diving) each won two events to lead Vo-Tech to an 86-69 victory over Palo Verde.
      Vo-Tech also won the boys meet, beating Palo Verde, 77-61.
      -- TRACK -- Cheyenne dominated the Durango Relays, winning the boys and girls titles.
      Cheyenne set boys meet records in the 3,200 relay (8:26.2) and the distance medley (10:46.5). Cimarron set a meet record in the pole vault (124 feet, 2 1/2 inches).
      In the girls meet, Cheyenne set meet records in the 3,200 relay (10:21.1) and the distance medley (13:15.8). Cimarron set a record in the 1,600 relay (4:11.5) and Green Valley set a record in the throwers' 400 relay (56.8).
