Associated Press TAMPA, Fla. -- A 13-year-old girl found in Nevada with her stepgrandfather, who was on probation for raping his mentally retarded daughter, returned to Florida on Monday and said she is fine. Johnnie Stover refused to answer other questions after arriving at Tampa International Airport. She was being taken to a hospital for an examination before returning home. "It's been hell for me, for the whole family," her mother, Betty Byrd, said before the reunion.
"But now she's coming home, and a weight's been lifted." Raymond Arthur Byrd, 73, was charged with interfering with child custody and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. Officials expected he would be returned to Florida within two weeks if he waives extradition. Raymond Byrd was taken into custody Saturday in West Wendover. He was serving a 20-year probationary term on a 1985 charge of raping his mentally retarded daughter when she was in her 20s.
