Associated Press RENO -- An auditor looking into the National Bowling Stadium said $17 million in costs could not be accounted for after a preliminary review of paperwork. The Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority owns and operates the $50 million facility that opened two years ago. The agency sought an independent audit after expenses kept piling up and the tab exceeded the original budget by about $20 million. Robert Krum, a Washoe County special projects inspector, has been conducting the audit. So far, the review shows $30 million, mostly in main construction costs, are well documented. But about $17 million could not be tracked by records provided by the tourism agency.
"It's not to suggest that is doesn't exist, it's just that we don't have it," said David Roundtree, county public works director. Agency officials said additional records would be provided. "It's going to take some time to dig it all up," said interim authority president Fred Boyd. "It's not that we're hiding anything, they've got to ask for what they want." "I would think that between our architect and our organization and the former project manager ... that we ought to be able to come up with what they're asking for," he told the Reno Gazette-Journal.
