     Curry suspended
     following drug test
     
     
Former world champion Donald Curry has been indefinitely suspended for testing positive for marijuana after his April 9 fight at the Aladdin, according to the Nevada Athletic Commission.
      Curry, a former undisputed welterweight champion and World Boxing Association junior middleweight champion, was stopped by Emmett Linton in the seventh round of a scheduled 10-rounder.
     
     Butterbean-McSorley
     fight might hit Tahoe
     
     
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- San Jose Sharks defenseman Marty McSorley has agreed to fight 320-pound Eric "Butterbean" Esch in a four-round bout Aug. 2 at Caesars Tahoe, according to a source close to McSorley.
      McSorley, who will be giving away 90 pounds to Butterbean, has never fought professionally, although he ranks among the NHL's career leaders in penalty minutes.

WEST COLUMBIA, Texas -- The UNLV golf team is two strokes behind leader Texas Christian after the second round of the Western Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championships, played at the Columbia Lakes Country Club.
      The Rebels shot a 1-under par 287 and sit at 573. TCU leads with 571. New Mexico, at 579, is the only other school among the 16 teams within the leaders heading into today's final round.
      UNLV freshman Jeremy Anderson is third individually with a 70-70--140, two strokes off the lead of Brigham Young's Andy Miller.

     leads Hooters event
     
     
MILLINGTON, Tenn. -- Former UNLV golfer Chris Riley shot a 6-under-par 66 to take a two-stroke lead after the first round of the $100,000 NGA/Hooters Professional Golf Tour.
      The round was shortened due to rain and will resume today at 7:30 a.m. with the second round to follow.
     
     Meadows tops
     Laughlin in softball
     
     
The Meadows softball team scored two runs without a hit in the sixth inning to defeat Laughlin, 4-3.
      Michelle Pham stole home with one out in the inning to score the winning run. It was one of Pham's four stolen bases.
      Jennifer Copeland pitched a three-hitter to earn the victory.
