The Nevada Highway Patrol is advising Las Vegas Valley residents planning to attend the U2 concert tonight at Sam Boyd Stadium to leave early for the event.
Trooper Steve Harney said the main access routes to the stadium -- Russell Road and Tropicana Avenue -- are each expected to be packed with motorists. Those who live near the stadium are being asked to take side or surface streets to avoid the congestion.
Harney said that with more than 35,000 people expected to attend the concert, which will start at 7:30 p.m., traffic will be a mess at times.
"Patience will definitely be a virtue after the show," he said. "We are asking people to cooperate and obey traffic laws and we shouldn't have too many problems."
The Highway Patrol will bring in extra staff to patrol areas near the stadium, he said.
