Review-Journal Mike Villa tripled in the go-ahead run and scored the eventual winning run in the top of the seventh inning to lead Rancho to a 6-5 victory over Basic on Thursday in a battle for second place in the Sunrise Division. The victory put the Rams (16-9, 6-3 division) in a tie for second place with Las Vegas, two games behind Green Valley. Basic (10-10, 5-4) slipped to fourth. With the game tied at 4, Pepe Martinez singled to open the seventh and scored on Villa's triple. Ricardo Jasso's sacrifice fly scored Villa to make it 6-4. Josh LaMothe was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple for the Rams. At Las Vegas, Chris O'Brien was 3-for-4 with three doubles and four RBIs as the Wildcats defeated Eldorado, 10-7. Trailing 6-5, Andy D'Angelo's two-run single sparked a five-run sixth-inning outburst for Las Vegas (14-6, 5-3 Sunrise). At Durango, the Trailblazers scored twice in the bottom of the seventh for the 4-3 victory over Silverado.
Durango's Alan Webb struck out 13, giving up four hits. Eddie Guerrero, Brandon Perry and Heath Sachs each went 2-for-3 for the Blazers. At Chaparral, Shaun Hermansen was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to lead Sunrise Division-leading Green Valley to a 17-6 victory over the Cowboys. Hermansen had a single and a two-run double in the Gators' eight-run third-inning outburst. Bobby Pierce homered, Brian Reed was 3-for-4 with a double and Gerry Alesia was 2-for-3 for Green Valley (20-3, 8-1 Sunrise). At Bonanza, Chris Peters and Ryan Lee each hit home runs to lead Bishop Gorman to a 19-6 victory over the Bengals. Peters was 2-for-2 with three RBIs, and Lee was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. At Cimarron-Memorial, Gavin Gosz was 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs to lead the Spartans to a 15-0 victory over Clark. Jeff Zipser added two hits and three RBIs, and Mike Esposito had a triple and a home run for Cimarron. At Cheyenne, Billy Shoning had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Desert Shields to a 9-4 victory over Western. Shoning picked up the victory.
