Bush, still with Stars, activated from DL

Homer Bush might eventually be headed to the New York Yankees' organization.
However, on Thursday night at Cashman Field, Bush was activated from the disabled list and back in his customary role as the Stars second baseman and leadoff hitter. And he'll remain there until the Yankees sign Japanese pitching sensation Hideki Irabu.
"They told me to go ahead and play, so I'm back on track now," said Bush, who went ?-for-? in the Stars' ?-? victory/loss over/to the Vancouver Canadians. "It's good that I'm getting some at-bats before I go over (to the Yankees), because I didn't want to go over there cold turkey. So I think this is best for me, just to play and if (the trade) happens, to go on over there. And if it doesn't happen, just continue playing here."
By the looks of things, Bush could be playing here for awhile.
On Tuesday, the parent San Diego Padres traded Irabu's negotiating rights to New York along with Bush and two minor leaguers in exchange for $3 million and two of the Yankees' minor-league prospects.
However, the trade is contingent upon Irabu signing a contract with the Yankees, which apparently will be no easy task. A published report today out of New York stated that Irabu's agent quickly rejected the Yankees' first offer -- a three-year contract worth about $14 million to $15 million.
So while Irabu and the Yankees talk money, Bush, who had been out since April 13 with a strained quad muscle, will remain in Las Vegas' lineup.
"It's good to have him back," Stars manager Jerry Royster said. "Homer needs to play. He didn't get a chance to play very much last year (because of a broken leg). ... This is good for Homer, to get him back playing and get all that stuff that turned out to be nothing off his mind. In reality, not one thing has happened."
