IN BRIEF

     Court confirms
     Gold River plan

Gold River Hotel and Casino Corp. last week said its amended plan for reorganization was confirmed by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Nevada.
A total of $75 million in mortgage notes and accrued interest will be converted to equity, making Gold River substantially debt free. Class A and B common stock have been canceled and Gold River will become privately held.
The company's main remaining debt is a $5.75 million promissory note secured by a first lien on Gold River's assets.
Gold River management believes the new capital structure will make the company more competitive in the Laughlin market.

     Oasis Residential
     files registration

Oasis Residential Inc. filed a mixed-use shelf registration with the Securities and Exchange Commission for up to $250 million of debt securities, common stock and depositary shares representing preferred stock and warrants to purchase common or preferred stock.
The company has no immediate plans to sell securities, but may do so in the future if market conditions are favorable.
Oasis Residential, based in Henderson, operates 49 apartment communities in Nevada, Colorado and California.

     Timeshare project
     nears completion

MPTV Inc. of Newport Beach, Calif., said it is nearing completion of three sizes of model condominiums at its Lake Tropicana timeshare project in Las Vegas.
Construction is about 60 percent complete on an additional 16 condominium units.
Early sales were made possible because of a restructuring of the company's mortgage financing and the anticipation of raising additional working capital.
Management is projecting brisk sales during the quarter to end June 30. A portion of these sales should be generated by high-technology off-site offices that will be set up in the units.

     Reno Air February
     traffic numbers grow

Reno Air Inc. reported that February traffic grew by 11.9 percent to 403,671 passengers from 360,613 passengers in February 1996. The carrier's passenger load factor was 64 percent for the month.
On a year-over-year basis, February revenue passenger miles and available seat miles grew by 5.8 percent and 12.7 percent, respectively, and load factor was down 4.2 points.
Reno Air, which was started in 1992, serves 21 Western and Midwestern U.S. cities, and inaugurated Detroit service on Jan. 30. Beginning April 2, the carrier will operate daily service between Gulfport, Miss., and Tampa-St. Petersburg and Orlando-Sanford, Fla.

     First Security
     opens new branch

First Security Bank is opening a branch at 770 E. Warm Springs Road. The branch is in the McCarran Business Park.

     Microsoft finds
     second bug

SEATTLE -- Another security flaw has turned up in Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser. Like the one found earlier last week, it could enable a Web site operator to wreak havoc in someone else's computer.
This second defect would allow the operator to run programs secretly on another computer, send electronic mail under someone else's name, severely damage software stored on a hard drive or wipe out the hard drive altogether.
The most dangerous aspect of this second bug in Internet Explorer 3.0 is for users running Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 1 or 2 who are not protected by "firewalls," computer security barriers typically used by large business customers to prevent unauthorized entry through cyberspace.
That makes it a much more narrow problem than the previous glitch, found in Internet Explorer versions 3.0 and 3.01 for the Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 operating systems.
