     Rebels won't reach NCAA Tournament

To the sports editor:
Joe Hawk's March 2 column (Forget about Rebels earning NCAA Tournament berth) was right on the money. As a die-hard Rebel fan since 1971 (except for the Rollie years), I truly hope they make the Dance. But without winning the Western Athletic Conference Tournament, it won't happen.
A National Invitation Tournament bid would be better experience for the Rebels. They might get the chance to play one or two games at home and advance to Madison Square Garden. If they made the NCAAs, they would probably face a high seed in the first round and get blown out.
An NIT bid is nothing to be ashamed of for this hard-working team and coaching staff.

Hawk's column about fireworks was dud

     To the sports editor:
In reference to Joe Hawk's Feb. 25 column (UNLV's tedious pregame display should be scaled back), doesn't he ever have anything nice to write about the basketball program?
We have the best pregame show in college basketball. Hawk and (Texas Chistian coach) Billy Tubbs seem to be the only ones complaining about it. Everyone loves it.
Come on, Joe, get on the bandwagon and start supporting our basketball program.

Golf pros whine constantly about Woods

To the sports editor:
Since Tiger Woods has invaded pro golf, I hear nothing but whining from the other so-called pros.
When Jack Nicklaus broke in, other pros complained he took too long. Now it's too much noise. What do players expect with the crowds Woods is drawing and the purses bigger than ever? Tiger is the best thing that's happened to golf in a decade.
