Las Vegas police have released a composite sketch of a man believed to be a crucial witness in the highly publicized shooting of race car driver Chris Trickle. The sketch portrays a man, about 30, with long blonde hair tied in a pony tail, Las Vegas police Sgt. Kevin Manning said. The man is being sought solely for questioning and is not a suspect, police said. Trickle, 24, was shot in the head as he drove on Blue Diamond Road near Interstate 15 on Feb. 9. The nephew of NASCAR driver Dick Trickle remains in a coma at University Medical Center, and in serious condition Friday. Manning said police have not been able to determine what led to the shooting, but are working on the assumption that Trickle was involved in an earlier traffic altercation.
Manning said the man in the sketch stopped a Citizens Area Transit bus to report the shooting, and directed passengers on the bus to Trickle's vehicle. As police arrived, the man walked away and has not been found. Two of the people who were directed to Trickle's car were Michael and Sandra Clancey of Sacramento, Calif. Sandra Clancey, a surgeon, rendered aid to Trickle. Manning said the Clanceys played a big role in saving his life. The Clanceys later said it appeared the unidentified man was acting strangely at the shooting scene. They also said they told officers to find the witness, but were ignored. Manning said the Clanceys helped police complete the composite sketch on Friday. Anyone who recognizes the man is asked to call police at 229-3521, or Secret Witness at 385-5555.
