BOULDER CITY CENTER The Boulder City Center, 1001 Arizona St., offers many activities and programs for seniors (293-5510). Meals are served five days a week to anyone age 60 and older for a donation of $1.25. Meals on Wheels is provided to the homebound age 60 and older for a donation of $2. The Widow and Widowers Support Group meets at 10 a.m. Mondays. A bereavement support group, sponsored by Nathan Adelson Hospice, meets at 9 a.m. the first and third Thursday of each month (733-0320). Health services, by appointment only, include assistance with medical billing problems, health assessments for the homebound, complete physicals with blood work, foot clinics, blood-pressure clinics, vision screenings and nutrition education. Social activities include pool, card games, bingo, pingpong, movies, seminars, music, quilting, crafts, travel and volunteer services. CAMBEIRO CENTER The Arturo Cambeiro Senior Center at 330 N. 13th St. is open 9 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays. It is managed by the Nevada Association of Latin Americans (NALA). Spanish and English are spoken (385-0909). Meals are served to adults age 60 and older at 11:30 a.m. daily for a donation of $1.25. Activities offered include arts, citizenship classes, conversational English classes, crafts, exercise, folkloric dance, table games and ukulele classes. CANNON CENTER The Howard W. Cannon Senior Service Center, 340 N. 11th St., offers centralized services to seniors (366-1522). Medical equipment is available through the Cannon Center. The following groups are represented at the center: Las Vegas Housing Authority, American Association of Retired Persons, Cannon Senior Medical Center, Catholic Community Services of Nevada, Clark County Public Guardian/Administrator Representative Payeeship Program, Clark County Social Services, Nevada Division for Aging Services, Nevada State Welfare, patient billing specialists and the city of Las Vegas Senior Citizens Law Project. Appointments are suggested. Special services include: renewal of Nevada driver licenses and Nevada ID cards issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles the first Monday of each month; vision screening every other Thursday; Congressional Community Outreach program the third Monday of each month; and a CAT bus vendor station for purchase of monthly passes and tokens. New Outlook Optical will also provide minor repairs and adjustments to eye wear on the second Thursday of each month. The city of Las Vegas Senior Citizens Law Project presents monthly advanced directive seminars for seniors 60 and older. Information on Nevada's Uniform Act on the Terminally Ill is available, and living wills and durable powers of attorney for health care are prepared upon request. Seminars are free and by appointment only (229-6596). The Retired Senior and Volunteer Program provides an outlet for senior citizens wanting to remain active after retirement. More than 70 public and nonprofit agencies in Clark County are served by these volunteers (382-0721). DERFELT CENTER The Derfelt Center in Lorenzi Park, 3333 W. Washington Ave., offers ongoing activities 8 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays for adults 55 and older (229-6601). Free income tax assistance is offered 9 a.m.-noon daily, except Wednesdays, through April 15. Line dancing is taught at noon Fridays. DULA GYMNASIUM Dula Gymnasium, adjacent to the Las Vegas Senior Citizens Center at 441 E. Bonanza Road, is the home of the city's Active Sports for Seniors Program (229-6307). Beginning tap is taught at 10 a.m. Mondays. Cribbage is played at 10 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Senior basketball players take to the court at 11 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Table tennis is played at 9 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Paddle tennis for beginners is also played at 9 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Intermediate and advanced paddle tennis players compete at 9 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. A weekly weight-loss group meets at 10 a.m. Wednesdays. Tai chi is taught at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesdays. Evening leagues consist of chess at 6 p.m. Wednesdays and boccie ball at 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Boccie ball is played at Jaycee Park, 2100 E. St. Louis Ave. EOB CENTER The EOB (Economic Opportunity Board of Clark County) Senior Center, 330 W. Washington Ave., offers social activities, services in health and education, low-cost meals, a thrift shop and the Senior and Handicapped Transportation Program (647-2536). The Foster Grandparents Program also is available through EOB. The program offers seniors the opportunity to help a child who is mentally and emotionally disabled, neglected or abused. A small stipend is offered. HENDERSON CENTER The Henderson Senior Center, 27 E. Texas Ave. in Henderson, offers a variety of recreational, social and health services and activities. The center is open 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday; 6-10 p.m. Monday through Thursday; and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday (565-6990). Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada, through the Black Mountain Senior Nutrition Program, serves lunch 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays for a suggested donation of $1.25 (385-5284). The Retired Seniors Volunteer Program coordinates community needs with senior talents (565-6990). Henderson volunteers host a brunch every Saturday 9-11 a.m. Cost is $1.25. A potluck is held the first Sunday of each month at 1 p.m. If that Sunday falls on a holiday weekend, the potluck will be held the following Sunday. Game Day begins at 1:15 p.m. every Friday in the dining room. Party bridge and hearts will be played. Daily recreational activities include arts and crafts, billiards, bingo, bridge, ceramics, dance classes, chorus, cribbage, pinochle, quilting, senior orchestra, woodcarving and many others. HOLLYHOCK CENTER The Hollyhock Adult Day Care Center, 380 N. Maryland Parkway, is operated by the Economic Opportunity Board of Clark County. It offers programs to meet the specific needs of elderly and impaired individuals (382-0093). The center also specializes in the care of Alzheimer's patients. KATHERINE CENTER The Katherine Center in Reformation Lutheran Church, 580 E. St. Louis Ave., is open 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. weekdays (732-2054). Meals are served at 11:30 a.m. Mondays through Fridays. Medication supervision, nutritious meals, stroke exercise classes and other therapies also are offered. LOWDEN CENTER The Lowden Center, 3333 Cambridge St., offers senior activities 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (455-7169). Ceramics, games, guest speakers, health awareness programs, fitness activities and field trips are planned each month. NORTHWEST COMMUNITY CENTER Northwest Community Center, 6841 W. Lone Mountain Road, offers senior activities Monday through Friday (229-4924). The Senior Fun Times is a social group that plans and executes short outings on a regular basis. Field trips, stretch and exercise classes, bingo, health screenings, movies and club meetings are planned each month. PARKDALE CENTER Parkdale Community Center, 3200 Ferndale St., offers social activities and bimonthly trips for seniors (455-7517). Pinochle games are played at 10 a.m. Wednesdays, and Scrabble competitions are held at 10 a.m. Thursdays. Potluck lunches are held every fourth Thursday of the month excluding holidays. SALVATION ARMY The Friendship Circle Adult Daytime Center, sponsored by the Salvation Army, is an adult day-care facility at 830 E. Lake Mead Drive in Henderson. The center is open 7 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays (565-8836). The center offers activities to reinforce awareness and promote social interaction. The facility also provides meals, nursing, entertainment, counseling and mental and physical exercise. Low-income assistance is available. Opticare, a community service program that offers free cataract and glaucoma screenings to adults 50 and older, makes weekly visits to housing communities, mobile home parks and senior centers (369-1555). Sunrise Chapter of Senior Friends sponsors a game day at 1 p.m. every other Monday at the Senior Friends office, 3101 S. Maryland Parkway, Suite 314. Bridge, canasta, pinochle and rummy are some of the activities scheduled. The group also offers free blood-pressure screenings at 1:30 p.m. every Tuesday in the Senior Friends office. The Senior Advantage Resource Center, 9310 Sun City Blvd., Suite 101, offers a bereavement support group the second and fourth Monday of each month. Alzheimer's Disease Association offers information about the disease and support and services for patients, families and caregivers. Meetings are at various locations throughout the community. Nevada State Troupers, senior citizens tap dancing for charity, is available for bookings (four to six weeks in advance) for club dates, community affairs, fund-raisers, reunions, nursing homes, churches and schools. There is no charge for shows; donations are given to local charities. The group also offers a two-hour dance class for $2 (458-2044). A seniors slo-pitch softball league plays every Tuesday and Thursday at 9 a.m. at Lorenzi Park, 3333 W. Washington Ave. (642-0684). From one-day trips to extended tours, Seniors on the Go, 1113 Purple Martin Court, offers trips to seniors throughout the year (657-1330).
