Review-Journal Brett Williams' two-run double in the ninth inning Saturday gave Cheyenne an 11-9 high school baseball victory at Valley. Billy Shoning led off the ninth with a single and went to third on a double by Tommy Krier. Williams then doubled to score both players. Josh Laidlaw had two home runs for Cheyenne. At Green Valley, Bobby Pierce was 3-for-3 with a home run and a double to lead the Gators to a 20-2 victory over Cheyenne. Shaun Hermansen was 3-for-5 with a home run and Brian Reed added three hits for Green Valley. At Chaparral, freshman Brandon Perry had a double, a home run and two RBIs to lead Durango to a 7-2 victory over the Cowboys. Heath Sachs, Eddie Guerrero, Nick Aiello and David Yancy had two hits each for the Trailblazers. Aiello went the distance, allowing four hits and one walk, while striking out six. At Cimarron-Memorial, Richard Reible went the distance, striking out nine to lead the Spartans to a 13-3 victory over Hunter, Utah. Reible, who allowed just three hits, struck out the first seven batters. At Hadland Park, Rob Hougham was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs to lead Bishop Gorman to a 4-1 victory over Granger, Utah. Jason VanMeetren was 2-for-2 and Matt Smith added two doubles for the Gaels.
At Las Vegas, Dane Ball was 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs to lead Gorman to a 9-4 victory. Paul Wurts went the distance to pick up the victory, allowing five hits and two walks while striking out six. At Basic, Chris Duesler was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run to lead the Wolves to a 12-2 victory over Ponderosa, Colo. Angelo Seybert was 2-for-3 with a run scored for Basic. Also at Basic, Seybert was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored to lead the Wolves to a 11-2 victory over Las Vegas. Anthony Caracciolo was 2-for-3 and Duesler drove in two runs. At Las Vegas, Jason Chatham tossed a five-hitter, striking out seven to lead the Wildcats to a 4-1 victory over Western. -- SOFTBALL -- Virgin Valley scored four runs in the fourth inning to come from behind and beat Cedar, Utah, in the Dixie March Warmup Tournament at St. George, Utah. The victory gave the Bulldogs third place in the 48-team tournament. Virgin Valley was 4-1 in the two-day event. -- SWIMMING -- Green Valley's swept the Southern Nevada Swim Coaches Association Relay Meet at UNLV. Green Valley took first on the girls side with 220 points. Durango (214) was second and Silverado (211) was third. The Gators also took the boys title with 177 points. Durango (147) was second and Silverado (125) was third.
