NICA announces art competition for local students


     The Nevada Institute for Contemporary Art, 3455 E. Flamingo Road, invites all students in grades five through 12 to enter the Pathway Project Student Art Exhibition.
      Potential contestants can visit the gallery and pick up an entry form.
      Artworks entered in the competition will be juried and $1,000 in total cash awards will be given. Entries are due by May 16.
      An exhibition of the accepted entries will be on display May 29 through June 1 at the NICA gallery. An opening reception will be held 6-8 p.m. May 29, with awards announced at 7 p.m.
      Sue Fink, museum educator for Lied Discovery Children's Museum, will be the guest juror.
      The goal of the Pathway Project is to challenge and guide students in making positive decisions and encouraging youth to find ways to make good choices.
      Local teachers are invited to pick up a Pathway Packet, which outlinesNICA's educational programming and project ideas for students.
      The Pathway Project Student Exhibition has been funded by a grant from attorneys Quirk & Tratos.
