Review-Journal A 12-year-old boy fell 100 feet to his death Friday afternoon at Zion National Park near St. George, Utah, authorities said. Denny Davies, a spokesman for the National Park Service, said Tyler Jeffrey Eggertz died at 3:45 p.m. along the Emerald Pools trail in the park, which is about 150 miles northeast of Las Vegas.
Davies said the boy, who was from Sandy, Utah, had taken off his shoes and was wading in Heaps Creek when he ventured too close to the edge of the middle pool and slipped. He fell about 100 feet and landed at the base of the lower pool. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a Washington County Sheriff's Department deputy. The death is being investigated by the Sheriff's Department and park investigators. The area where Eggertz fell is well-marked with posted warnings about exposed cliffs.
