Bishop Gorman scored five runs in the second inning on the way to an 11-4 victory over Castle on Saturday in the Gael Easter Classic at Hadland Park.
The victory locked up the Division I title for the Gaels, but not the overall title. That went to Division VI winner Chaminade (4-0 in the tournament), which gave up four fewer runs than Gorman.
Against Castle, Dane Ball's two-run double sparked Gorman's five-run second inning as the Gaels took the lead for good.
Ball drove in three runs, and Ryan Lee was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Gorman.
Other division winners were Bonita Vista (Division II), Cimarron-Memorial (Division III) and Chatsworth (Division IV). The winner from Division V was not available.
At Chaparral, Maurice Washington's two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted the Cowboys to a 6-4 victory over Sylmar, Calif.
Steve Trzpis was 3-for-3, and E.J. Henderson was 2-for-2 with two stolen bases for Chaparral.
Washington came through with a double, grand slam and six RBIs in Chaparral's second game, a 13-7 victory over Saugus.
Russell Cleveland was 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs, and Dusty Owens was 3-for-4 for Chaparral.
At Cimarron-Memorial, Mike Esposito was 4-for-4 and Gavin Gosz was 3-for-4 with a double and a triple to lead the Spartans to a 15-3 victory over Rancho Santa Fe.
-- BLAZER SPRING BASH -- Alan Webb, Tom Doxey and Chris Bannister combined on a three-hit shutout to lead Durango to a 13-0 victory over Mount Carmel in the championship game at Durango.
Webb allowed the three hits in his four innings of work, striking out 12 to earn the victory. Doxey had two strikeouts in his two innings, and Bannister threw a hitless seventh.
Brandon Perry led the way on offense for the Trailblazers, going 3-for-4. David Yancy drove in three runs and Webb added two RBIs for Durango.
-- PAHRANAGAT VALLEY TOURNAMENT -- Kenny Maxwell threw a two-hitter to lead Pahranagat Valley to a 22-3 victory over Lincoln County's junior varsity in the tournament's title game at Alamo.
Maxwell struck out eight and walked one in five innings. Jesse Bratton was 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored, and Shauncy Maloy added three hits and three runs for Pahranagat Valley, which beat West Wendover 9-8 in the semifinals earlier in the day.
-- OTHER GAMES -- At San Diego, Green Valley beat Elk Grove, 4-3.
