LV phone service files lawsuit MGC Communications, a competitive local telephone exchange carrier based in Las Vegas, has filed a lawsuit against Quintrex Data Systems Corp. of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for nonperformance of a computer software package purchased by MGC. The complaint alleges that the customer service and billing software system was inadequate and not as it was represented to MGC. The suit seeks recision or an undisclosed amount in damages. -- -- -- Kathy Shepard has been appointed vice president of corporate communications for Hilton Hotels Corp. Shepard most recently served as director of corporate communications for the company. Shepard's responsibilities include corporate media relations and supervising public relations activities for Hilton's gaming operations. -- -- -- NevTel, which started a competitive local phone service in Las Vegas in November, said it signed up more than 3,000 customers and 6,200 lines in service. That's 50 percent more subscribers than on April 1. NevTel is a subsidiary of privately held MGC Communications of Las Vegas. It plans to enter the Atlanta, Chicago and Pomona, Calif., markets by year end.

Davis has 16 years experience in surveying and has worked for J W Davis for two years. Cederburg has worked in the local engineering and surveying industry for 25 years. -- -- -- Doug Tomasini has joined Dunn Reber Glenn Marz Advertising & Public Relations as media assistant. He was table games manager at Fitzgerald's. -- -- -- STS International L.L.C. has changed its name to Meritex International L.L.C., with a new logo and signs to reflect the change. Its two divisions have new names: STS Marketing Group has become Meritex Marketing Group and STS Display & Exhibit Group is now Meritex Exhibit Group. -- -- -- Nadine Underhill has joined the Longaberger Co. as an independent sales consultant. The company sells home products. -- -- -- Santa Fe Pacific Gold said Richard J. Stoehr has resigned from the board of directors effective April 1. He was a director since 1994 and also served as an adviser to the corporation for several years prior to joining the board.
