A 22-year-old man took his life Tuesday, apparently after accidentally shooting two acquaintances during a struggle, police said.
Las Vegas police Sgt. Bill Keeton said detectives were still sorting out details of the incident Tuesday night. He said police were called to a residence on Del Rey Avenue, near the intersection of West Charleston and Decatur boulevards at 1:30 p.m.
There, they found a man dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, Keeton said. The victim's name and the address of the shooting site were not released pending notification of next of kin.
Keeton said the victim had an AK-47 assault rifle, and was fooling around with a group of friends in an alley off Del Rey. The victim and several men became involved in what appeared to be a good-natured struggle when the weapon discharged twice, wounding two of the men, Keeton said.
The men, who are in their 20s, were taken by ambulance to University Medical Center, Keeton said. Their injuries were not life-threatening.
After the shooting, the 22-year-old apparently became distraught and took his own life, Keeton said. He said another possibility is that the two survivors were struggling with the man and trying to prevent the suicide.
