     County to hold lottery
     for housing program

A lottery to choose 200 applicants for low-income housing will be held today at the Clark County Housing Authority office immediately following a registration period.
From 8 to 10 a.m., anyone interested in living in a subsidized rental property can get a lottery number.
The lottery drawing will be at the authority's administration office, 5390 E. Flamingo Road.
The 200 applicants selected in the lottery will be scheduled for interviews to determine their eligibility for housing, officials said.
The authority has replaced the old method of providing housing on a first-come, first-serve basis with the hope that the new system will stop people from camping out overnight.
Those not selected in today's lottery will have another opportunity to be considered on June 4.
Drawings will be held the first Wednesday of each month.
For more information, call the authority.

     Homeowners to talk
     about association bill

CARSON CITY -- Southern Nevada homeowner association members may testify Friday on a bill that would require more public accountability from association boards of directors.
Sen. Mike Schneider, D-Las Vegas, will chair a subcommittee of the Senate Commerce Committee at the 3 p.m. Friday meeting, which will be held in Room 4412 of the Sawyer Building, 555 E. Washington Ave.
Residents can discuss Schneider's Senate Bill 314, which would require open meetings of the boards of homeowner associations and allow residents to speak at the meetings.
They also would be given greater access to records of homeowner association boards of directors.

     Public invited to join
     graffiti cleanup team

Police are inviting anyone interested in getting rid of graffiti to a training program that teaches people how to identify, document and clean up the scrawls.
Called Graffiti Removal In Progress, or GRIP, the four-hour program starts at 9 a.m. May 17 at the future site of the Lowden Resource Center -- the building behind Arby's on Maryland Parkway near Twain Avenue.
Teaming together with Frazee Paints and the Lowden Resource Center, Las Vegas police and the Clark County Response Department will provide hands-on training to certify people as "clean-up effort coordinators."
Entries from local middle and high school students who participated in a logo and art contest to name the program will be displayed.
Two $100 first prizes will be awarded.
      Pre-registration is required for attendance.
