Review-Journal World champion Sarah Fitz-Gerald of Australia will head the professional field in the Las Vegas Bright Lights Squash Open today through Sunday at the Green Valley Athletic Club. The event is a Women's International Squash Players Association tour stop. Tournament director Tomas Fortson of the GVAC said the pro tournament drew a field of about 30 players from all over the world. Fortson said the tournament is open to the public and free of charge.
Qualifying sessions take place today at noon and 5 p.m. First-round matches begin Thursday at 4 p.m. Amy Milanek, a GVAC squash professional, will play Fitz-Gerald in the opening round. Milanek is ranked No. 4 in the United States. Quarterfinal matches are scheduled for Friday at 5 and 9 p.m. The semifinals are Saturday at 3 and 5 p.m., and the final is Sunday at 3 p.m. There will also be a 10-division amateur tournament Friday through Sunday.
