Big band ends concert season

Site Map

In its final concert of the season, the Nevada Jazz Artists Big Band will feature singer-songwriter Terry Richards at 2 p.m. May 18 at Winchester Community Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive.
Tickets are $7 general admission; $5 for Jazz Society members and seniors. They are available at the Winchester center box office.
Richards burst into national prominence in 1966 when he sang with the Four Coins on their hit records "Shangri-la" and "If You Love Me, Really Love Me." He left the Four Coins to work in Las Vegas as an opening act for Don Rickles, Buddy Hackett, Steve Lawrence and Edye Gorme and other headliners.
As lead singer for Chase, named for noted jazz trumpeter Bill Chase, Richards wrote and sang its million-selling hit, "Get It On." Disaster ended the popular group's skyrocketing success when seven members lost their lives in a 1974 plane crash.
Richards resumed recording two years later with his own group, Synergy. He also became proficient in the technical aspects of show business, amassing considerable experience in record production, light and sound engineering, theatrical production and promotion.
He's written and sung a number of jingles for TV commercials and has been a Las Vegas resident for the past 24 years.
