'Coming out' of lesbian TV character overplayed

     To the editor:
On the National Day of Prayer, May 1, what did I find on the front page of the newspaper, but a huge article about gays. Nowhere on the front page was there anything about it being the National Day of Prayer.
I am assuming that a majority of your readers are Christians. By giving Ellen DeGeneres the coverage, you have offended a majority of your readers.
Homosexuality was the downfall of the Roman empire and other great nations and it has been stated that whoever does not know history is doomed to repeat it.
Here are headlines I do not expect to see in the Review-Journal: "United States continues to support Moslem nations even though they slaughtered 160,000 Christians in 1996," or "Thousands of Christians sold into slavery while U.S. government watches," or "Christian women raped by Moslems so they will have Moslem babies." I also believe that ABC planned the coming-out party so it would take away from the National Day of Prayer.
Your newspaper is living proof that it did.

     -- To the editor:
Most people do not want to admit it, but when we classify people as being lesbian or homosexual we are really referring to their sexual activities. Religion and morals aside, one can argue that what consenting people do in the privacy of their bedroom is their business.
However, I do not make it public what my spouse and I do in our bedroom -- it's no one else's business. And if I did, wouldn't I be branded as a weirdo of some kind? Therefore, I resent the fact that the Review-Journal decided to publish on its front page with an accompanying picture of two lesbians the "news" that Ellen DeGeneres has come out of the closet.
Why does the Review-Journal insist on forcing on the public what Ellen does in her bedroom? What does that say about the Review-Journal?
At least, the article should have been buried somewhere in the TV section, not displayed on the front page.
