Review-Journal The woes for the star-less Las Vegas Stars continued Saturday night. Las Vegas lost its 11th game in the last 12 outings as Albuquerque's Paul Konerko drove in five runs in a 6-2 Dukes victory at Albuquerque, N.M. And the Stars - who have sent Derrek Lee, Trey Beamon, Phil Plantier, Joey Long and Terry Shumpert to the big leagues recently - seem certain to lose another player. Tim Worrell broke his hand pitching for San Diego on Saturday night, which means the Padres will soon need to pluck a pitcher off the Las Vegas roster. Stars officials could not say which player would leave.
Albuquerque (14-18) led the whole way against Pete Smith, who was making his first start since April 20. Konerko hit a two-run homer off Smith (3-2) in the first inning, and Rick Parker had a solo shot in the second for a 3-0 Dukes lead. Homer Bush's RBI double, scoring Eric Helfand, put the Stars (12-22) on the board in the third inning. Stoney Briggs made it 3-2 in the fourth. He beat out an infield single, stole second base and scored on Doug Dascenzo's RBI single. The score remained there until the seventh, when Konerko smashed a three-run double to put the game away.
