Gators win Sunrise swimming meets

Green Valley won the boys and girls Sunrise Division swimming championships Saturday at UNLV, and the Gators also captured all the division's individual honors.
      Green Valley scored 502 points for the victory. Basic was second with 302 1/2, followed by Eldorado (245 1/2) and Chaparral (217) at the nine-team boys meet.
      The Gators' Jason Reed, who won the 200-meter freestyle and 100 fly at Saturday's division meet, was named Sunrise Boys Swimmer of the Year.
      The Gators easily won the girls meet with 599 1/2 points. Basic (366), Boulder City (251.5), Chaparral (230) and Rancho (203) were the next four finishers in the eight-team meet.
      Tanya Gabriele, who won the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke for Green Valley, was named the Sunrise Girls Swimmer of the Year. Green Valley's Kate Oiness was named Diver of the Year.
      Durango's Scott Weaver was named the Sunset Boys Swimmer of the Year after helping the Trailblazers (455 1/2) edge Silverado (441) at the Sunset Division championship Saturday at UNLV.
      Cimarron-Memorial (344) was third, followed by Bonanza (235) and The Meadows (192.50) in the 11-team meet.
      Weaver won the 200 and 500 freestyle. The Meadows' Jason Suszko also won two events, the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.
      Silverado topped Durango 404-380 to take the 11-team girls Sunset Division Championship.
      The Skyhawks' Jacque Hoover was named Sunset Girls Swimmer of the Year after she won the 50 and 100 freestyle.
      Cimarron's Vince Davidson was named Sunset Diver of the Year.
      -- BASEBALL -- At Needles, Calif., T.J. Fescher homered to help The Meadows salvage the back end of a doubleheader against Needles.
      Needles took the first game 11-1, before The Meadows bounced back for a 12-7 victory.
