Tourism agency won't share revenues

The board of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority unanimously approved a new $129.3 million annual budget on Thursday despite one member's suggestion that some of that money could be better spent to solve infrastructure problems.
      "For every hotel room that is built there are approximately seven jobs created and, say, five new families come to town and they have an impact on our roads, on our schools, on our police protection and on our parks," said Clark County Commissioner Mary Kincaid, a member of the tourism-promoting agency's board.

Consumer prices dip in LV

The cost of living in Las Vegas dipped a modest 0.1 percent in April, but the local inflation rate of 5.3 percent continues to outpace the national rate of 2.9 percent, according to a report released Thursday.
      First Security Bank, which monitors consumer price changes in Las Vegas and other markets, attributed the overall monthly decline to lower prices for clothing, groceries, health care, utilities and housing.
