UNLV's Division of Continuing Education and the Denver-based Institute for Legal Education are sponsoring a weeklong educational program about courts, trials and the profession of law this summer. "Junior Lawyers Youth Camp," for students entering seventh, eighth or ninth grade this fall, is scheduled July 21-25 in the Classroom Building Complex on the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway. Activities and field trips are set between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day, and additional supervision between 8 and 9 a.m. and 4 and 5 p.m. will also be available for an extra fee.
Educational activities planned include team competitions, discussions about famous trials and arguments in civil courts, and group re-enactments of famous court cases. The camp will also feature field trips to a courthouse, a law library and a law firm, and an interview with an attorney. The students will prepare a mock trial to be presented on the final day of camp. That event will be open to parents. Lunch will be provided in the university's dining commons each day and is included with the registration fee. Parents will be required to sign a medical form prior to the beginning of the program and agree to drop off and pick up children at the appointed time and specified point on campus each day.
