     Broadcast companies
     form partnership
     
     
Summit Media Inc., owner of Spanish-language television station Telemundo, and S&R Broadcasting Inc., owner of radio station KDOL-AM 1280, have agreed to a joint partnership under a local management agreement that went into effect on Sunday. Scott Gentry, general manager of Telemundo, will assume all programming and day-to-day operations of KDOL.

      Las Vegas-based Consolidated Resorts Inc. has broken ground at 5499 W. Tropicana Ave. for Club de Soleil, an 86-suite vacation ownership resort. Estimated cost of construction is $10 million and completion is scheduled for Aug. 31.
      Established in 1982 by developer Arthur Spector, Consolidated Resorts built seven vacation ownership resorts in Hawaii.

      Lionel Handler has joined the offices of Robert B. Strimling & Associates, a firm specializing in dermatology, skin cancer and laser surgery. Handler was formerly with the Dermatology and Laser Center in New York.

      Workers for B&H Roofing and Sierra Waterproofing have joined Roofers Local 162 in Las Vegas.

      On Stage Entertainment Inc. said it will create a new division, On Stage Theaters Inc. It will be run by Gerard O'Riordan.

      Salt Lake City-based Smith's Food & Drug Centers has announced a reorganization of executive management in its Southwest and Intermountain regional offices.
      Smith's parent company, Fred Meyer Inc., has named Abel Porter president and chief operating officer of Smith's. Porter was senior vice president and Intermountain regional manager.
      Jim Hallsey has been named executive vice president. He was senior vice president and Southwest regional manager. Hallsey will move to Salt Lake City from Phoenix.
      Ron Parise has been appointed senior vice president and Intermountain regional manager. He has served in various management positions during his 19-year career with Smith's.
      Mike Hatch is now senior vice president and Southwest regional manager for 79 Smith's and Smitty's stores. He was Smith's vice president of sales and merchandising.
      The company has named Bruce Miller to the newly created position of vice president of sales for the Intermountain region. He was Smith's director of bakery and service deli.

     Timeshare industry
     grows in Nevada
     
     
Nevada timeshare sales totaled $117 million in 1996 as the statewide industry grew at an average rate of six percent per year, according to a study by the American Resort Development Association.
      In 1996, 9,300 interval weeks were sold in Nevada at an average price of $12,500 a week.
      Nevada timeshare sales in 1996 represent an increase in total dollar volume of about $19 million, or 19 percent, over 1993 sales, as recorded in an earlier statewide study.
      The industry generated over $1.2 billion in economic impacts in 1996, including some 21,000 jobs.
      Nearly 40,500 timeshare owners, or almost half of those owning timeshare property in Nevada, own in the Las Vegas area.
