Baseball team improves to 2-0
Review-Journal Junior first baseman Tony DeMarco homered and drove in four runs Sunday as the UNLV baseball team defeated UC Santa Barbara 10-3 at Santa Barbara, Calif., in a contest shortened to six innings due to rain. Junior right-hander Mike Zipser (1-0) earned the victory, allowing two runs over five innings, striking out five. DeMarco drove in two runs in the second inning with a single and added a two-run homer in the third. Chris Adolph and Jesse Pryor each had two hits and an RBI for the Rebels (2-0).
UNLV opens its home season at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Wilson Stadium against Southern Utah. -- WOMEN'S TENNIS -- At UNLV, the Lady Rebels defeated New Mexico State, 6-3. UNLV's top two singles players -- Susie Kocsis and Gee Gee Garvin -- lost their matches, but Veronica Goude, Lisa Annebro, Britta Gabl and Marcella Valkenhoff picked up straight-set victories. The doubles teams of Goude and Gabl, and Annebro and Valkenhoff also won. The Rebels are idle until a Feb. 14 match against Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz.
