Man gets 18 years for bold 1994 casino raid The last of seven men charged with a bold raid of a Harrah's casino cage in 1994 was sentenced Thursday to 18 years in prison. Ronald Farris, 21, will be eligible for parole in five years. He was 17 at the time when he and four others, all members of a Los Angeles street gang, burst into the casino on April 24, 1994, and made off with $97,000. The group was arrested after a high speed chase. Members of the group who actually pulled off the robbery were charged in federal court along with two other men who organized the heist. Because Farris was juvenile at the time, his case was turned over to the state system, where he was certified as an adult and charged with robbery, kidnapping, burglary and conspiracy. Those charges were dismissed in 1995 but later reinstated by the Nevada Supreme Court.
