Card masters flock to new Rio tournament

Binion's Horseshoe stands pat as the gambler's choice for world-class poker tournament play in Las Vegas, but the Rio is making a bid of its own.
      The Rio's inaugural Carnivale of Poker got under way earlier this month with an estimated prize pool of $3 million, and tournament organizers think it's going to exceed that.

GAMING CHIPS: Station sale helps put casino stocks on fast track

Gaming stocks sustained an upward jolt with Friday's news that Crescent Real Estate Equities Inc. of Fort Worth, Texas, was paying $1.7 billion for Station Casinos Inc.
      The big winners included Harrah's Entertainment Inc., which was up $2.31 a share to close at $21.88; MGM Grand Inc., which jumped $1.63 to close at $37.88; and Circus Circus Enterprises Inc., which increased $1.50 to $25.50.
