Activities in Las Vegas

     Toastmasters
     
      The Windjammers Toastmasters holds a breakfast meeting at 7:30 a.m. Wednesdays at Denny's Restaurant, 3081 S. Maryland Parkway (458-4271).
      The Chatterboxes Toastmasters meet at 8:30 a.m. Wednesdays at the American Group Building, 3790 S. Paradise Road. Guests are invited (873-9035).
      The Magic Toasters meet at noon Wednesdays at MGC Communications, 3301 N. Buffalo Drive. Men and women who are interested in improving speaking skills and building self-confidence are invited (310-4247).
      The Bachelors & Bachelorettes Toastmasters, a singles club dedicated to communication and public speaking, meets at 6:15 p.m. Wednesdays at Macayo Vegas, 4457 W. Charleston Blvd. (393-0032).
      The Starmasters Toastmasters meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays at the YMCA, 4141 Meadows Lane. Guests are invited (369-1863).
      The Freetoasters Toastmasters group meets at 7:30 a.m. Thursdays at 3773 Howard Hughes Parkway. Guests are welcome (658-9841, 395-4700).
      The Voice Links Toastmasters offers a program to teach individuals how to develop or improve communications and listening skills. Classes are held at noon Thursdays at 330 S. Valley View Blvd. Call 244-3916 or 310-4247 for further information.
     
     Art class
     
      Bonnie Elder of Resource Applications will present "Make the Art You Love to Have Fast," a free art class, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Rainbow Library, 3150 N. Buffalo Drive (648-5500).
     
     Scrabble clubs
     
      The Scrabble Group meets at 11 a.m. Wednesdays at 4016 S. Rainbow Blvd. (254-0047).
      Scrabble Club 391 meets at 6 p.m. Thursdays and 1 p.m. Sundays at Health South Rehabilitation Hospital, 1250 S. Valley View Blvd. (256-3220).
     
     Nevada Press Women
     
      Nevada Press Women will hold a meeting at 4 p.m. Wednesday at 2520 Wigwam Parkway in Henderson. Pat Graff of New Mexico will speak. Call 260-8400 or 736-9218 for reservations.
     
     Southern Nevada Mensa
     
      Southern Nevada Mensa meets at 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Hot Shots, 3430 E. Tropicana Ave.; 5:30 p.m. Fridays at R-Bar, 6000 W. Charleston Blvd.; 10 a.m. Saturdays at Barnes and Noble, 2191 N. Rainbow Blvd.; and 10 a.m. Sundays at Borders bookstore, 1445 E. Sunset Road (585-3805).
     
     Singles group
     
      The Funtimers, a social group for singles over 35 years of age, meets at 6 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays. Call 387-3887 for more information.
     
     Support groups
     
      Support, a support group for family and friends of those who are incarcerated, meets at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays at First United Methodist Church, 231 S. Third St. (314-5463).
      The Southern Nevada Center for Independent Living sponsors a cross-disability peer support group. Meetings are held at 1:30 p.m. Thursdays. Call 649-3822 for more information.
      Debtors Anonymous is a free 12-step program for those with compulsive patterns of overspending. Meetings are held at 7 p.m. Thursdays at Central Christian Church, 3375 S. Mojave Road.
      Gam-Anon, a 12-step support group for family and friends of the compulsive gambler, holds meetings throughout the week. Call 731-0905 for more information.
      Gamblers Anonymous of Southern Nevada holds day and evening meetings in Las Vegas. Those with a gambling problem who want to quit may call the 24-hour hot line (385-7732) for meeting schedules or immediate help.
     
     Tall Club
     
      The Tall Club of Las Vegas meets at 5:30 p.m. Thursdays at the World Trade Center, 901 E. Desert Inn Road. Those who meet minimum height requirements of 5 feet 10 inches for women and 6 feet 2 inches for men are invited (253-5552).
     
     Desert Dowsers
     
      The Las Vegas Desert Dowsers will hold a meeting at 6:45 p.m. Thursday in the community building at Riviera Vegas Mobile Park, 2036 Palm St. The program will feature "Goat Doctor," from a television pilot about treasure hunting. The public is invited.
     
     CCI meeting
     
      The Champions Volunteer group for Canine Companions for Independence will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at West Charleston Library, 6301 W. Charleston Blvd. Reggie Bennett of Assistive Technology Center will speak. The public is invited (739-6569).
     
     Gamble-Aires
     
      The Las Vegas Gamble-Aires Men's Barbershop Chorus meets at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays at Christ Lutheran Church, 111 Torrey Pines Drive. Men of all ages who enjoy singing are welcome (454-7620).
     
     Fund-raiser
     
      The Greater Nevada Detachment of the Marine Corps League will sponsor its seventh annual golf tournament Aug. 7 at Angel Park Golf Course, 100 S. Rampart Blvd. Cost is $75 per person or $300 per team. Proceeds will benefit the group's junior officers training. Call 368-1775 for more information.
