Nevada briefs

     Las Vegan crowned
     Ms. Senior Nevada

CARSON CITY -- Gail Imazaki has been named Ms. Senior Nevada 1998 out of a field of 16 women age 60 or older vying for the title.
Imazaki, 62, is a retired Los Angeles nurse who moved to Las Vegas in February 1997. Ms. Senior America 1991 Lori Hargrave Sanchez also lives in a Sun City community, and Imazaki credits her with pushing her.
"Here's the reason I entered this pageant," Imazaki said, pulling Sanchez close after winning Sunday. "We were in a talent program together. She has given me so much warmth and support."
Beverly Shows of Las Vegas was named first runner-up, and Anita Saunders of Reno was second runner-up.
Winning the state title qualifies Imazaki for the Ms. Senior America pageant to be held Sept. 2-6 in Wilmington, Del.

     Police seek clues in
     Dolan Springs death

Arizona authorities are trying to identify a man found Monday who officials say may have been beaten to death on a road in Dolan Springs.
A motorist found the man at 1 a.m. in the community about 75 miles south of Las Vegas. The Mohave County sheriff's office said the body showed extensive trauma to the head.
The man's body was in the northbound lane of Pierce Ferry Road near Mesquite Road. The man was 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-10, 135 to 155 pounds, with a grayish beard, crew cut and a black "American Biker" T-shirt with an eagle on the front. He also wore black pants, black boots and a gray Civil War Rebel hat.
Anyone with information on the man's identity may call the Mohave County sheriff's office at (520) 753-0753.

     Police identify teen
     found dead in valley

Police have identified the body of a 17-year-old found shot to death on Pabco Road, east of Lake Mead Drive, as Jermaine Emanuel Davis of Las Vegas.
Davis' body was found Saturday at 7 a.m. near the Pabco Gypsum plant. Police believe Davis had been shot a few hours earlier. As of Monday, neither a motive nor suspects had been discovered.
Anyone with information about the slaying may call the Homicide Detail at 229-3521 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.

     Groups may benefit
     from mayors' summit

RENO -- Nonprofit groups in the Reno area stand to benefit from money leftover from the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
The conference organizing board said it could have up to $40,000 left over after all expenses for the June event are paid.
More than $700,000 was raised for the event through local and national sponsorships.
Officials said the plan is to distribute the money to about 15 organizations that contributed.
"I'd say we are surprised," Mayor Jeff Griffin said. "We expected to break even ... We didn't budget it to make money."
