| Sunday, January 17, 1999 Copyright © Las Vegas Review-Journal Broadway producer brings musical revue to UNLV The world premiere of "Lerner and Loewe: Brief Shining Moment," featuring Broadway actors Noel Craig and Thom Keane-Koutsoukos, will be held at 8 p.m. Feb. 4 in the Judy Bayley Theatre at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway. Performances will continue at 8 p.m. Feb. 5 and 6 and 10-13, with matinees at 2 p.m. Feb. 7 and 14 in the Judy Bayley Theatre. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased at the UNLV Performing Arts Center box office, 895-3801, or Dillard's department stores. Discounts are available for students, seniors, military and handicapped. The show is being produced by UNLV in association with Broadway producer Mike Merrick. Merrick has produced more than a dozen Broadway shows including "Clarence Darrow" starring Henry Fonda; "The Belle of Amherst" featuring Julie Harris; and revivals of "My Fair Lady" and "Camelot." The new musical is written by Stone "Bud " Widney, who was a creative associate of Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe for more than 30 years. The musical will include moments from "My Fair Lady," "Brigadoon," "Paint Your Wagon," "Gigi" and "Camelot." Robert Brewer, director of the graduate musical theater program at UNLV, will direct the show. Craig will play the part of Lerner. He has performed on Broadway in "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead," "A Patriot for Me," "Vivat! Vivat Regina!" and "Conduct Unbecoming." He also has been featured in dozens of musicals including "Dance a Little Closer," Lerner's final Broadway show. Keane-Koutsoukos, who plays the part of Loewe, was in the original Broadway casts of "Fiddler on the Roof" with Zero Mostel, and "Oh Dad, Poor Dad" with Hermione Gingold. He also has performed in "The Odd Couple," "Zorba," "The Seagull" and "The King and I." Choreographer for the show is K.C. Gussler; the conductor, musical director and arranger is Brian Hicks; the set designer is John Iacovelli; and the costume designer is Jennifer Foster.
