Stern pushes for age minimum in NBA WASHINGTON -- NBA commissioner David Stern said he'd like to see an age limit for young players coming into the league. Stern told The Washington Post in an interview published today that with more and more young players leaving college early, or skipping it altogether, to turn pro, he'd like to work with the players' union to impose a minimum age limit. "We have the right to set an age limit in the collective bargaining agreement," Stern said. "I believe we can work together to come up with something that is legally correct and will withstand legal challenge." Surin runs 100 meters in year's-best 9.92 NUREMBERG, Germany -- Canadian Bruny Surin ran the fastest 100 meters of the year at the Nuremberg Track Festival (9.92 seconds) after Donovan Bailey (10.51) failed to qualify for the final. Ex-Pirate Rhoden wins golf invitational PITTSBURGH -- Former major-league pitcher Rick Rhoden retained his title at the Toyota Mario Lemieux Invitational with a one-stroke victory over former Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway. Rhoden, who played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, shot a 1-under 71 Sunday and finished three trips around the Jack Nicklaus-designed The Club at Nevillewood in 4-under 212. Elway also closed with a 71.

All four victories have been by one goal. Goalie Konstantin Simchuk stopped 34 shots to earn his second straight victory. Jamie Cooke and Mike Jorgensen each had two goals. For the second time this season, Jamie Cooke scored in the game's first minute. Exber shoots 67 to win SNGA event Brady Exber fired a 5-under-par 67 to win the Championship division of the Southern Nevada Golf Association tournament at the Mojave Resort Golf Club in Laughlin.
