The Clark County Health District conducts random inspections of local restaurants. An establishment receives an A grade if it has received no more than 10 demerits. A B grade is given to those establishments that receive 11 to 20 demerits, and a C grade is given to any establishment that receives 21 to 40 demerits. If an establishment receives more than 40 demerits, it is closed immediately. The grades are posted at the time of the inspection. The establishment has the option of requesting a reinspection before its next scheduled inspection. Clark County Health District inspectors rate eating establishments By Sara Edwards Review-Journal Barcelona Lounge, 5021 E. Craig Road, received 12 demerits Nov. 4. A B grade was posted. Violations included a dirty and obstructed hand sink and employee drinking sodas while serving. Bob Capozolli Family Restaurant, 6250 Mountain Vista St., Henderson, received 26 demerits Nov. 1. A C grade was posted. Violations included a dirty slicer; dirty shelving for plates and pans; a dishwasher not sanitizing; a dirty microwave oven; raw chicken and hamburger stored over mushrooms; and raw shell eggs not on the lowest shelf. Chuy's Mesquite Broiler, 4460 S. Durango Drive, received 18 demerits Nov. 2. A B grade was posted. Violations included raw poultry and meat stored next to dressing; a cup in soup base; and scoops in bulk food. The restaurant received zero demerits during reinspection Nov. 3 and was upgraded to an A. 5 & Diner, 6840 W. Sahara Ave., received 18 demerits Nov. 6. A B grade was posted. Violations included a dirty cutting board, can opener and ceiling around vents; tuna salad, coleslaw and mayonnaise not cooled at proper temperatures; and utensils stored with food debris on them. Godfather's Pizza, 2269 N. Green Valley Parkway, Henderson, received 22 demerits Nov. 5. A C grade was posted. Violations included a dirty ice machine with slime inside; dirty dough pan and can opener; ice machine with black substance on ice; and dirty walls and floors. Great American Cookies, 7400 Las Vegas Blvd. South, received 19 demerits Nov. 4. A B grade was posted. Violations included a food handler without a health card; no hand cleanser at hand sink; and dirty door handles. Hong Hong Economy Chinese Fast Food, 4425 E. Tropicana Ave., received 15 demerits Nov. 4. A B grade was posted. Violations included chicken held at improper temperature. Kentucky Fried Chicken, 2330 S. Rainbow Blvd., received 21 demerits Nov. 5. A C grade was posted. Violations included chicken not heated at proper temperature; dirty prep tables, can opener, microwave and utensil holders; and a food handler with an expired health card. Klondike Sunset Casino restaurant and bar, 444 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, received 27 demerits Nov. 3. A C grade was posted. Violations included refrigerator not cooling foods at proper temperature; raw meat stored over cooked chickens and onions; a domestic microwave in use; a cook observed with tongs in his back pocket; and boxes of food on the floor of the walk-in cooler.
Lotus Restaurant, 215 Water St., Henderson, received 20 demerits Nov. 3. A B grade was posted. Violations included sweet and sour pork, fried rice and raw chicken at improper temperatures; defrosting breaded meat on a table; prepared food stored undated; raw meat stored above ready-to-eat foods; and a baking sheet placed on a trash can and used as preparation surface for chicken. The restaurant received two demerits during reinspection Nov. 4 and was upgraded to an A. Pepe's Tacos, 1401 N. Decatur Blvd., received 16 demerits Nov. 6. A B grade was posted. Violations included dirty cutting boards, preparation tables, shelves and soda nozzles; foods stored uncovered; wiping cloths not in sanitizer; and a food handler with an expired health card. Pick Up Stix Summerlin, 1910 Village Center Circle, received 21 demerits Nov. 7. A C grade was posted. Violations included chicken at improper temperature; dirty wiping cloths not in sanitizer solution; chemicals stored on ice machine; and dirty preparation tables, hood and sink. Shooters Sports Bar & Cafe, 1617 S. Decatur Blvd., received 18 demerits Nov. 5. A B grade was posted. Violations included turkey not cooled at proper temperature; dirty rags stored in hand sink; dried-on food accumulating on slicers, cutting boards and can openers; and a large accumulation of spilled food on the floor. Stardust main kitchen, 3000 Las Vegas Blvd. South, received 12 demerits Nov. 7. A B grade was posted. Violations included a preparation area hand sink with no soap; hand sinks containing trash and utensils; food stored uncovered; and dirty preparation tables, floors and can openers. Sumo Japanese Restaurant, 2861 N. Green Valley Parkway, Henderson, received 28 demerits Nov. 3. A C grade was posted. Violations included bottles of spray cleaners stored over bags of tempura batter; raw tuna stored over an open box of lettuce; brown slime inside ice machine; a pot of soy sauce placed on the floor to cool; and a worn wire strainer. Sumo Japanese Restaurant sushi bar, 2861 N. Green Valley Parkway, Henderson, received 20 demerits Nov. 3. A B grade was posted. Violations included rice at improper temperature; no hand soap for hand washing; and food handlers not washing hands in between handling raw fish and ready-to-eat avocado. Vito's Pizza, 1408 Nevada Highway, Boulder City, received 13 demerits Nov. 4. A B grade was posted. Violations included walk-in cooler with a broken drain line; a large mixer with dried-on food; and an employee working with an expired health card. The following restaurants have been reinspected: Char-Thel Cafe, 900 E. Karen Ave, received zero demerits Nov. 3 and was upgraded to an A. China Garden Restaurant & Bar, 5485 W. Sahara Ave., received eight demerits Nov. 4 and was upgraded to an A. El Pollo Real Restaurant, 2511 Stewart Ave., received 17 demerits Nov. 4 and retained a B grade. Hibachi-San, Boulevard Mall, 3528 S. Maryland Parkway, received five demerits Oct. 28 and was upgraded to an A. Venetian Italian Restaurant, 3713 W. Sahara Ave., received zero demerits Nov. 3 and was upgraded to an A.
