Cirque du Soleil performer dies in crash on Kyle Canyon Road

     Associated Press

A member of the Cirque du Soleil show died in a car accident on Kyle Canyon Road near Mount Charleston Monday night.
The Nevada Highway Patrol said Konstantin Zaiats, 30, was driving east on Kyle Canyon Road around 6:30 p.m. when his sport utility vehicle veered from the road, tried to correct and then rolled over.
He was transported to University Medical Center where he died around 11:30 p.m.
Trooper Scott Flabi, patrol spokesman, said a blood test will be completed to determine if Zaiats was under the influence of alcohol. Flabi said Zaiats was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.
Three others were in the vehicle. Two, including Zaiats' wife, Irina Sorokina, are Cirque du Soleil performers. The third was their son, 2. All wore seatbelts and were not seriously injured.
Zaiats performed in Cirque du Soleil's Mystere show at Treasure Island since 1995. He was a member of theaerial high bar act. His wife performs in the high bar and bungee acts.
Flabi said the accident remains under investigation.
