Groesbeck case may be resolved
Review-Journal
Lewdness and battery charges filed against former Henderson Mayor Robert Groesbeck in connection with an incident at Mandalay Bay could be resolved in court this morning.
Attorneys in the Groesbeck case are scheduled to appear before Justice of the Peace Deborah Lippis at 8 a.m.
Attorney David Chesnoff, who represents Groesbeck, did not return a phone message left Thursday afternoon.
"David Chesnoff and I have been negotiating. We calendared it (Friday) for possible resolution," District Attorney Stewart Bell said.
Terms of the negotiations were not available Thursday.
The 38-year-old Groesbeck -- who served as Henderson mayor from 1993 to 1997 -- has been charged with open and gross lewdness and battery on a police officer, both gross misdemeanors.
On Sept. 3 he was at the Mandalay Bay's exclusive club, the Foundation Room, with a group of Silver State executives when a woman he did not know told police he grabbed her breast.
According to police reports, Groesbeck then became combative when a Las Vegas police sergeant attempted to question him. The two struggled and Groesbeck put the officer in a headlock, the reports said. The lengthy confrontation was captured on Mandalay Bay security tapes.
The female victim last week said she wanted prosecutors to drop the case. At the time, Bell said his office was not inclined to simply dismiss the case.
"We believe there is some accountability required in this case, and it is our obligation to pursue it on behalf of the public," he said.
